What is EN 10253-4 Elbow?
EN 10253-4 specifies the technical requirements for stainless steel butt-weld fittings used in pressure pipelines, including elbows, tees, reducers, and caps.
An EN 10253-4 elbow is a curved pipe fitting that changes the direction of flow in a pipeline. These elbows are available in:
- 45° and 90° standard angles
- Long radius (LR) R-3D and short radius (SR) R-2D types
- Seamless or welded construction

Heat Treatment of EN 10253-4 Elbow
- Austenitic stainless steel: solution annealed at 1050–1150°C followed by water quenching.
- Duplex stainless steel: solution annealed at 1020–1100°C, then rapidly cooled.
Testing and Certification
Each EN 10253-4 elbow is supplied with:
- Dimensional and visual inspection
- Hydrostatic or pneumatic testing
- Non-Destructive Testing (RT / UT / PT)
- Chemical and mechanical tests
- EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 inspection certificate
