Heat Treatment Requirements for ASTM A234 WP11
Depending on the class (CL1, CL2, CL3), ASTM A234 WP11 fittings shall undergo proper heat treatment:
- Class 1 (CL1): Normally supplied in the annealed condition
- Class 2 (CL2): Supplied in the normalized and tempered condition
- Class 3 (CL3): Supplied in the quenched and tempered condition
Heat treatment temperatures (typical ranges):
- Normalizing: 900 – 950 °C, followed by air cooling
- Tempering: 650 – 750 °C after normalizing or quenching
- Annealing: 870 – 950 °C, followed by controlled cooling
Hardness Requirements of ASTM 234 WP11
- Maximum Hardness: 197 HB (Brinell Hardness)
- For CL2 and CL3, hardness control is critical to ensure creep and high-temperature service reliability.
Non-Destructive Examination (NDE)
