Grade WP22 is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel (2¼Cr-1Mo), offering excellent resistance to high-temperature creep, oxidation, and thermal fatigue.

Mechanical properties vary slightly depending on Class (CL1 or CL3) and heat treatment condition.
Heat Treatment Requirements
ASTM A234 WP22 fittings must be supplied in a proper heat-treated condition:
- Annealing
- Normalizing
- Normalizing and tempering
- Quenching and tempering (for some classes)
WP22 CL1 → commonly normalized & tempered
WP22 CL3 → higher strength due to different heat treatment cycles
Heat treatment improves grain structure, toughness, and high-temperature creep resistance.
