Hydrogen-Induced Cracking HIC Testing

What is Hydrogen-Induced Cracking and HIC Test

Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC) is a common form of wet H2S damage caused by the initiation and propagation of small crack-like flaws, often resembling small internal voids or blisters, that are generally laminar (in-plane) and oriented parallel to the inside and outside surfaces of steel. HIC usually occurs due to the effects of aqueous hydrogen diffusing into steel in wet H2S refinery process environments.

NACE TM0284 is the Test Method Evaluation of Pipeline and Pressure Vessel Steels for Resistance to Hydrogen-Induced Cracking.

Intergranular corrosion Test IGC Test ASTM A262 for Stainless steel

Intergranular corrosion (IGC), also known as intergranular attack (IGA), is a form of corrosion where the boundaries of crystallites of the material are more susceptible to corrosion than their insides.

ASTM A262 is the Standard Practices for Detecting Susceptibility to Intergranular Attack in Austenitic Stainless Steels

ASTM A182 F53 vs F55 Super Duplex Stainless steel

ASTM A182 F53 vs F55 Super Duplex Stainless steel

Super Duplex Stainless steel UNS S32750 VS S32760 Super Duplex Stainless Steel refers to the dual-phase  austenite and ferrite phases stainless steels, having exceptionally high strength and superior corrosion resistance—especially against pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress-corrosion cracking in chloride enviorement. Comparing with Duplex stainless steels,Super Duplex stainless steel has higer pitting resistance equivalence number, PREN = %Cr + 3.3 %Mo +
