This standard applies to seamless and welded elliptical caps made of carbon and low – alloy steel..
An elliptical pipe cap (also called an elliptical head or 2:1 elliptical head) is a curved end closure for pressure vessels or pipelines. Its 2:1 crown-to-depth ratio provides uniform stress distribution, making it stronger and more material-efficient than hemispherical or flat heads.
