Hexagon Plugs are commonly used in combination with gasket seals to close tubes within the header of an (Air-Cooled) Heat Exchanger and to prevent them from leaking. They are able to withstand huge pressure. Through these tubes mostly energy (heat) is being transferred from a hot liquid (medium) to a colder liquid (medium).
About Hexagon Head Plug / Shoulder Plug
The Hexagon Head Plug (also called a Shoulder Plug) is a threaded closing device with a hexagonal profile for easy installation and removal using standard wrenches or tools. Often used in heat exchangers, pressure vessels, boilers, and process equipment, these plugs enable maintenance, repairs, and pressure testing without requiring extensive disassembly.
These plugs are designed for aircooled heat exchangers to seal pipe system ends. Forged header plugs and stainless steel plugs are ideal for petrochemical and power industries. Shoulder plugs/header plugs suit plug-type header boxes in aircooled heat exchangers or fin fan air coolers. Each tube is sealed by a shoulder plug with a gasket, enabling individual tube inspection and cleaning. Spare plugs and gaskets are needed for routine maintenance (to replace originals) or to plug leaking tubes.
